Melissaki Gerodeti 2023

Single Area

White Dry Wine

After sourcing it from its place of origin, the foothills of Mt. Psiloritis, we planted the little-known Melissaki variety in family-owned vineyard “GERO-DETI” in 2010. This wine combines a unique flavourful mouthfeel of beeswax aromas with a remarkably dense and fine tannic texture.

This year's harvest was at 3/9/23, when the grapes changed colour from greenish into yellowish with rose shades. The grapes were macerated on skins in second-use 400lt French oak (“Perle”) tanks for 9 days. The wine was aged in oak for almost 4 months. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation were spontaneous by yeasts and bacteria of the vineyard. The wine had a natural stabilization (no fining, no cold treatment) and was bottled unfiltered. Total SO2 in the bottle is in low concentration of 35 ppm.

Culture

Gero Deti vineyard is located between the villages of Alagni and Patsideros in Heraklion, an area that exerts a special charm on those who learn about its history.

The ruined village of Rouma that was devastated by plague centuries ago, with the Byzantine temples of the Virgin Mary in its foothills, amongst oaks and plane trees; the ruined tower of Patsideros; the castle of Tholi and the church of the Holy Apostles; all "speak" to anyone who wants to get to know them up close.
