Aggelis vineyard, planted in the 30s with own-rooted Liatiko vines, highlights the wealth of East Crete. The low yields lead to small grapes of high intensity of flavour. Harvesting was performed in two passes over 10 days, based on flavour profile. Fermentation by indigenous yeasts and malolactic bacteria. 1/3 of the bunches were fermented whole in small oak tank and barrels. The wine had a 12-day maceration, prior to maturation in inox and oak (40% matured for 1 month in new oak). Respect to natural micro-flora that defines each vintage character, results in a rare, self-sufficient wine that is made with no temperature control for fermentation, no fining, no cold treatments and is bottled unfiltered, with SO2 less than 50 ppm.

Tasting Note & Food Pairing

Ruby colour. Aromas of berry fruits marmalade and cherry with sweet spicy notes. Balanced with firm acidity. The mouthfeel is fruit-driven with mixed berries and a touch of sweet oak, while the tannins are nicely structured. A wine of good length and persistence, expected to be impressive in 2028.

Pair with all grilled food and savoury dishes from Greek and Mediterranean cuisine like octopus or hare stew. Serve at 15°C-16°C.

Culture

Aggelis vineyard is located in the Armenochandrades plateau in Siteia, an area of great interest. From the medieval village of Etia and the renowned De Mezzo villa to the deserted village of Saint Panteleimonas and beautiful Chandras with its very interesting folklore museum, the options are endless for those who want to explore the region. With a micro-climate favourable to the cultivation of vines, Aggelis area is said to be the first one to be planted with Plyto and Liatiko grapes, sometime in the 19th century.
