Kotsifali Karnari 2019

Single Area

Red Dry Wine

Kotsifali Karnari adapts western Crete’s tradition of “Marouvas” wines to a gentler style. The “Karnari” area’s Kotsifali grapes give us a wine that brings forward the warmth of alcohol in sweet fruit and spice notes, revealing its two-year ageing in used barrels. The noble influence of oxygen on the aroma and flavor is well integrated, adding complexity and stability.

Kotsifali Karnari is a wine that adapts western Crete’s tradition of “Marouvas” wines to a gentler style. The free run juice from well matured Kotsifali grapes was fermented as a white wine at 17-19°C. Almost at the end of the alcoholic fermentation, the wine matured in re-used French barrels, where it stayed for almost 3 years.

Culture

Karnari is situated at the southwestern foothills of mountain Juktas, in the Archanes- Asterousia Municipality, Heraklion Prefecture. A mainly agricultural area, it also has great archaeological interest and a story going back to the Neolithic era. Nearby Archanes is a beautiful village with a long history and a captivating present. Four km south, lies the Minoan complex of Vathipetro where we find one of the most primal wine presses of 16th century BC Crete. The complex of wine presses of Katalagari, one of the biggest of its kind, is also worth a visit.
